WA State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) SR 99 Tunnel Hazardous Materials Survey
Kane Environmental provided services to test materials located in the new State Route (SR) 99 tunnels, safety and utility areas, and support buildings to determine if any of the materials used contained asbestos. The survey provided WSDOT with information to aid their maintenance and other staff to work safely in the tunnels when repairing or modifying any of the built environment. Samples were collected in discrete locations, no destructive sampling occurred. Site inspection and sample collection were conducted by Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)-certified building inspectors.

City of Bothell Remediation with Electrical Resistance Heating (ERH) System
ERH is an intensive in-situ environmental remediation method that uses the flow of alternating electrical current to heat soil and groundwater to steaming temperatures. During the heating process (100 degrees Centigrade), contaminated vapor is captured in a subsurface vapor extraction system and treated prior to discharge to ambient air. The remedial action includes a bioremediation and groundwater recirculation system to cleanup residual contamination, along with some targeted near-surface soil removal and soil vapor extraction. Kane Environmental will conduct groundwater compliance monitoring quarterly after the remedial efforts are complete.

City of Bothell Remedial Investigation / Feasibility Study
Kane Environmental prepared a Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS) to characterize the horizontal and vertical extent of halogenated volatile organic compounds (HVOCs) in soil and groundwater beneath the site and or nearby properties from a former on-site dry cleaner.
Kane Environmental completed a Cleanup Action Plan under a Consent Decree with the Washington State Department of Ecology using electrical resistance heating (ERH) to remove dry cleaning solvents from subsurface soil and groundwater. The remedial action also includes a bioremediation and groundwater recirculation system to cleanup residual contamination, along with some targeted near-surface soil removal and soil vapor extraction.
